WHAT IS WALK FOR A BLOKE

Previously known as Nicks Walk, Walk for a Bloke is a unique event for blokes to come together and walk 25 kms to raise awareness and funds for bloke’s mental health.

It's a real opportunity to connect with old and new mates while supporting bloke’s mental health. You can register as an individual, a team or as a company.

We surveyed 500+ blokes who participated in Walk for a Bloke:

92.1%

said they would like to see the event remain blokes only.

97.4%

said they would look to bring additional blokes on the next walk.

I was surprised at how valuable it was for it to be a “mens only” space. Although clearly mental fitness is obviously not gender specific, I noticed the willingness for the guys on my walk to be more open and vulnerable with each other and connected over subjects that were relevant to “men’s business”.

WHO WILL YOU BE WALKING FOR

When you register you will have the opportunity to nominate someone you have lost that you would like to walk for and remember. We will be walking for our brother and mate Nick Dunn who we lost to suicide in 2021.

  • WHY IS THE WALK JUST FOR BLOKES?
Walk for a Bloke is a unique event for blokes to come together and walk 25kms to raise awareness and funds for bloke’s mental health. It also serves as medicine, enabling blokes to be active, to connect, listen, learn and to share in the walk and building resilience through action. We recognise wives, girlfriends, sisters, mothers and mates play an important role in blokes lives and welcome the women in your life to join as a supporter (see ticketing option) or a volunteer (contact bec@spoketoabloke.org).
  • WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?
We started Spoke to a Bloke after losing our brother and best mate to suicide. As a team, we work on the charity weekends and after hours, we are passionate about making a real impact. 100% of funds raised goes directly to running the charity, our events and projects to support blokes mental health. For more information on where the money goes visit our projects.
  • WHY DOES THE WALK FINISH AT HOTELS, PUBS AND CLUBS?
The feedback we have had is blokes want to get together and celebrate completing the walk. We encourage blokes to take the opportunity to continue conversations they started on the walk and share in their achievement of completing the walk together.
  • TRANSPORT
We suggest the use of public transport or organising pick up/drop off with friends or family for ease on the day. All routes are different so please take time to consider your walk map and plan accordingly.
  • EVENT DAY - WHAT DO I BRING
Please ensure you have minimum 1L water (we suggest using a camel pack or similar or carrying a small backpack with minimum 1L water bottle. Sunscreen Snacks Hat Comfortable walking shoes (do not wear new shoes for the first time)
  • HOW DO I FUNDRAISE?

  • I AM HAVING TROUBLE REGISTERING
Here are tips on how to register as an individual Here are tips on how to register as a team If you are still stuck, please contact bec@spoketoabloke.org
  • CAN I WALK ON MY OWN
If you are attending an organised location, we welcome everyone on the day. If you are walking on your own there will be an opportunity for you to make yourself known and buddy up with other solo walkers if you wish. For our grab a mate and walk anywhere option, please do just this - grab a mate and enjoy a day of great conversations and checking in on each other wherever your 25km walk may take you.
  • WHAT IF 25KM IS TOO MUCH FOR ME ON THE DAY?
All walkers have the option of ending their walk at anytime they feel necessary along the course. We encourage you to join us at the end venue to continue conversations and share in achievements together. If you do decide to exit the course, please ensure you let a volunteer or event lead know.
  • OUR ALCOHOL POLICY
We recognise that alcohol can be a contributing factor to mental health challenges among blokes. As such, the event does not promote or encourage the consumption of alcohol, and alcohol is not included in the price of the entry ticket. We respect the personal choices of each participant regarding alcohol consumption. At each end venue, lunch will be available for purchase at own arrangements, and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at the discretion of the attendee. Alcohol service will be managed by the venue in accordance with responsible service guidelines to ensure consumption is safe and appropriate.
  • WHAT HAPPENS IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY
Please keep an eye on pre-event communications and check back here for updates in regards to emergency procedure on event day.

The Spoke to a Bloke walk is a fantastic way to meet new and like-minded people and have open conversations about things we don't discuss enough. I recommended it to anyone."
